It is very appropriate that the Deja IIx (aka Deja ][) project is code-named “Phoenix”. Just when you thought it was gone, it rises from the ashes once more.
AppleWorks File Repair Utility v.1.0. This utility is designed to fix AppleWorks documents that have become damaged when the documents are saved from AppleWorks 6 running on a Mac OS X 10. Category: Utilities. Developer: Apple - Download - Price: $99.00. It was also ported to the Carbon API to work on Mac OS X, but it did not take advantage of many of the newer features of Mac OS X. AppleWorks could create, open, and save files in a number of file formats. For example, word processor documents could be saved in Microsoft Word format, and spreadsheet files could be saved in Microsoft Excel format.

The updater includes a special preview version of AppleWorks 6.1 for Mac OS X. AppleWorks 6 is not available as a free download; you need to purchase it.

The code hasn’t been touched in years, which presents its own challenges. The compiler is very unhappy (luckily, just warnings), it doesn’t support any of the modern language features which makes developing a lot easier.
Don’t hold your breath just yet. Deja IIx remains very much a side project, a labor of love. I can’t predict the how fast it will come along. but I will aim for spending an hour or two a week on it whenever I can.
